As an ardent activist in the fight against extreme poverty, Bono (co-founder of ONE, (RED) and lead singer of U2) believes that business can act as a force for good and as an engine for poverty reduction. He says that there’s only one thing we need to agree on: “That the lives of the poor deserve better treatment.” Earlier this year, ONE’s co-founder Bono was honored by Skoll Foundation with the Skoll Global Treasure Award in recognition of social entrepreneurship on a global scale. (Previous recipients have included Muhammad Yunus, Graça Machel, Archbishop Tutu, Malala Yousafzai, and the Dalai Lama). As part of the honor, Skoll and ONE produced this video with some of Bono’s thoughts on activism, commerce, politics, and faith—and the role each of those things can play in the fight against poverty.
